St. Andrei Rublev

Patron of iconographers, his work is some of the most famous iconography known to mankind.  He was born during the monastic revival as trust and support for the Eastern Orthodox Church grew in Russia.  He was a monk in the Trinity - St. Sergius Monastery and studied iconography from several well renowned artists.  By 1405, he helped to paint the Annunciation Cathedral in Moscow.  Best known for his Old Testament Trinity  - the icon exemplifies the simplicity and skill of his style.  He broke away from the prevailing severity of form, color and expression that dominated the developing Russian style of painting.
