St. Raphael the Archangel

One of the nine archangels that stands by the throne of God. He is known as the Angel of Love or Joy and his name means "Healer of God" or "God's remedy". The story of St. Raphael is recorded in Tobit as he travels with Tobiah and cures a man's blindness. Interestingly, he is considered the force of healing power of the sheep pool mentioned in St. John's Gospel. Pope St. Gregory the Great once said "The word "angel" denotes a function rather than a physical nature. Only when they are called upon by God to deliver a message, may they be called "angels" or messengers. It is only those who proclaim messages of supreme importance who are called archangels. Otherwise, they are spirits of the heavens." St. Raphael is a patron saint of healing, travelers, the youth and blindness.
